EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- It didn't matter that the Patriots' offense hadn't seemed right all day. When Tom Brady jogged onto the field with one final chance to tie yesterday's game against the Jets with 1:48 remaining, all of New England was thinking the same thing: Get ready for overtime.

The obstacles didn't matter: 90 yards, zero timeouts, no Wes Welker (inactive, knee injury). Brady had engineered 29 fourth-quarter comebacks during his career, including last week's improbable 11-point comeback over the Bills. This was crunch time for one of the clutchest QBs in NFL history and surely this would be comeback No. 30.

But five plays later, it was over. A desperation chuck to Joey Galloway with the Patriots facing 4th and 10 from their own 28 fell incomplete and the Jets emerged with a 16-9 triumph at the Meadowlands. It was the first regular-season loss Brady had endured since a defeat to the Dolphins on Dec. 10, 2006, a stretch of 19 games.

And suddenly all of New England was thinking the same thing: What was wrong with Tom?

"I thought we had a chance there," said Brady. "We just didn't execute well enough on the 2-minute possession and that's something we've been good at. The Jets were better at it today than we were. It's frustrating, we had really high expectations for this game, and we didn't put it together very well."

The Jets had grand plans as well and brazenly talked about them for much of the week. Scott knew what Patriots' fans were thinking when the Patriots took over late and didn't mind dashing their hopes.

"I know they were expecting the Tom Brady comeback," said Scott. "We put the team on our back, put it the defense's hands, and closed the show."

When Dennis went to the University of Massachusetts, I was a senior in high school. Even so, a few times I would go up and spend the weekend with him. Being freshman in college these students had discovered certain freedoms that might not have been there when they were still in high school. His dormitory was in the Southwest section of the University, in the high-rise dorms. The university was quite large, at that time, I believe there were over 20,000 students. When visiting it was okay to become involved in the various contests that would be run typically by freshman in college. Was rather cruel game was to go around to the campus and see, you could pick up the ugliest girl. While still in high school, I won. I admit, the game was cruel, but I was kind of funny that I was able to win it, while still in high school. Will figure out a better one for tomorrow.

WALKING TO SEE OUR GRANDPARENTS:

My brother and I were considered to be Irish twins although this was not true. In order to be true Irish twins, you must be less than a year apart, my brother and I are 11 months apart I was two months premature which does not fit the definition.But I digress.
I could generally talk my brother into anything at that time. This was the case on this sunny day. We were about three and five years old, my mother’s parents, our grandparents, had moved about 2 miles away. My brother and I were outside playing, and I decided that it would be a good idea to take a walk to see my grandparents. The problems here were;
We were kind of young to be walking 2 miles by ourselves.
We were supposed to be outside playing. So that someone might be upset when they couldn’t find us.
So the two of us made our way from our safe neighborhood on the hill to see our grandparents. This journey took us to Route122/140, which at that time was known as the Cape Road as this was the way to go to Cape Cod on Route 140 or Rhode Island on Route 122. Unknown to us, at this time, we were discovered to be missing and my mother was frantic. She contacted a neighbor across the street who had a car, the search began. Not finding us where we were supposed to be, the search widened. We were found walking on the side of the road about a half mile away from where we should have been. Needless to say, we were chastised for taking the trek. This is just one of many times that we were chastised for doing something with good intentions that were not shared by the adults.

THE HUMAN CHAIN

When younger children are left to their own means, they become creative. This was the case one day when, left to their own means some of these 4 and 5-year-old children decided that it would be great to stop traffic the one road that led into the neighborhood. So here were five children stopping all traffic trying to enter the area using the only road in or out. The group was comprised of three girls and two boys. Ironically, the father of the three girls was a State Trooper. Here we were delinquent at a young age. This is just an example of one of many incidents that would occur over the years.

Anniversary of sorts

Today is an anniversary as today was the day 10 years ago that my dad passed away. This definitely has to do with my brothers and definitely should be partof the post for today. A major part of doing this blog and any other is the memory involved. It is not seeing how the computer works or showing what you can do it. The important part is being able to save some of the memories that you have and share them with others. Enjoy.

It would actually be pretty neat, if I could put the picture of the high school jazz band and have the songs play from that band. I will work on that, it will take me a while. I will continue to work on this Blog. At the end I will add pictures of the family that we never got to see when we were young, because they lived in New Mexico. Today, that would not be as big a problem but at that time travel was not ask accessible as it is today. By putting all these images on here, I believe this is the only space where all of these are shown together. This will take me a while, but I do think it is a worthwhile endeavor. Big words. Given the title of this Blog, think I will write about the two of us in school. Because I was always a year behind teachers always thought that I would be a similar student as my brother was; wrong. In most cases Dennis was the ideal student, I was not. A great example of this was when we were in high school, he was in the National Honor Society, I was not. He was in the top 10 in his class, I came in number 86. The big difference was that I played basketball, baseball, band, jazz band, chorus, student Council he did not. Needless to say, although we were very close in age we were very different. Much of this can be attributed to the people that were in our age group. We will expand on this in future posts.

Well I did not put anything up yesterday. I did change some things on the site. Today I will continue to change the template somewhat by adding enough to fill the main part. My plan is to add pictures of genealogy at the bottom of the main template. I think this is accomplishing what I have planned to do. The blog is showing some of where we grew up and the two of us prior to the teaching years. I will continue this.

Well I have had a little bit more today. I should explain the reason I am doing this. The main reason is that after my brother passed away, there totally and was much on Facebook that dealt with the years he spent teaching, and rightfully so. He was a tremendous teacher and enjoyed teaching tremendously. Postings that were made were very important for all of these students but I felt it was important also to address some of the years prior to his becoming a teacher. I may not accomplish this, but I will give it a shot. This blog will also show much of the family that was not shown before.

Since this blog is about the two of us, I should start at the beginning. We were born in Worcester, on Birch Street so I am told. I was very young. We moved to Grafton,in 1954 our house was the last one on the street at the time. The neighborhood was called the airport, because it was built on the site of the Grafton Airport. When we moved there, there were plane wrecks in the woods. Many of the remnants of the airport was still visible, the Massachusetts Turnpike was still in the planning stages.

I am still working on the template, at least now I know how. My brother was known very much for music and I was known for being involved with athletics. While I did play sports in high school, college and after, I was also involved with music and especially during high school played in the band, jazz band, sang in the chorus with my brother Dennis. The two of us also played in a garage rock band as teenagers, he was the leader played lead guitar I played rhythm, sang; we played and a few church events as well as a couple of high school dances, it was fun.

Today I think I will share some pictures of my brother and I. We were both in the picture that was on here a few days ago at the Mexican Pavilion at the Worlds Fair in Montréal in 1967. We were close growing up as we were 11 months apart in age. Many times we were referred to as "Irish Twins" we were not. As I was premature, to be true "Irish Twins", you must actually be less than one year apart. We should have been 13 months apart.

As you can see, while we were both college graduates. It is quite apparent, however, that we have very different attitudes.

I will continue this subject, next couple of days. This takes me a while for two reasons

This is my last post concerning the economic conditions. Suffice it to say, the current economic condition is a normal downturn that has been exacerbated by ego. The human condition is reactionary; we do the same thing over again thinking that we are doing something new. Example of this is a Ponzi scheme that was used by Bernard Madoff for years. I wonder why the scheme had a name. We had the Enron scandal, an example of people not doing their job. The AIG bailout, the General Motors bailout are all prime examples of situations that could have been avoided had people in these companies focused on making the companies profitable for the long term instead of profits for the current year or for self gain. This type of thinking became very common throughout the business world. Enough said, again my opinion.

TODAY'S TOPIC:

My opinion today again concerns the current economic situation and the stimulus package that has been put into place. This is my opinion, and should be taken as such. There is much comparison to the Great Depression, which I feel should not happen. These events are not the same nor are the economies involved. During the Great Depression unemployment had risen to between 12 and 15 million workers, or 25-30 percent of the work force. The rate today is nowhere near this, as of June 2009 the rate was 9.7%. Although this is only one statistic it certainly shows the difference between the two times. During the 1930s, most economic theory was promoted by the economist "John Maynard Keynes". He was one of the first to promote deficit spending, which was done during the Depression and has been done since, and certainly has been done today with the stimulus package. This type of theory was later refuted by another economist "Milton Friedman". I have read writings of both and they both make good points. Needless to say, we are in a recession that needs to be addressed, the big difference that I feel today is that everyone knows about it globally. It is necessary for the world to act together to bring this under control. We do not need this recession to be ended as the Depression ended. We must always remember that the stimulus for production was provided by someone named "Hitler".

Stimulus; this would be something external that influences an activity.

In economics, fiscal policy is the use of government spending and revenue collection to influence the economy. This is where the economic stimulus package has been used; I feel that this was a good idea. The problem with this is that it becomes impossible to control how stimulus monies may be used. Ultimately all of the monies come from the consumer; some of these monies are given back to the consumer. This is where there is no control, because for the economy to come back spending must come directly from the consumer. This is a very simplistic approach to a problem that is not simplistic, but I am not trying to be an expert and give advice. My intent is simply to give my opinion.

Today's picture is another that was taken in Hawaii in 1985. Every evening we had a dinner with a theme, this particular night the theme was M*A*S*H. Everyone was provided with a Johnny, dog tags, the area was set up with tents and comedians were hired to play radar and hot lips. The picture is self-explanatory.

This is just another post, just posting some pictures from the past, although I do like to talk about economics. I also like to show some of the things that have happened over the years. The current economic situation, I feel has been exacerbated somewhat by all the media attention. Because people know about all the things that are going on. They become afraid to react more than they would if they did not know. Also the problems with companies such as General Motors can be traced to things such as "Management by Ego" and things that were given to workers through union contracts.
